Trauma surgery

The treatment of bone fractures, tendon injuries and muscle injuries is a key focus of our Practice. This applies both to conservative treatment without surgery and to surgical treatment.

"The gods have placed diagnosis before therapy" (Prof Dr Franz Volhard, Frankfurt). This applies in particular to the reliable recognition and assessment of a broken bone (fracture). Our aim is to make a correct "fracture classification" after a careful examination and with the aid of modern diagnostics (X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI). This enables us to find an individualised, successful treatment method for each patient.

In every fracture treatment, we aim to ensure that the bone or joint heals pain-free in its function-preserving position. We attach great importance to quickly restoring the function and resilience of the injured extremities to enable you to quickly return to everyday life or your sporting activities.

If a fracture cannot be sufficiently immobilised with a plaster cast or a special shoe, for example, or if the fracture ends are too displaced or the fracture is too complicated, surgery is necessary.

The surgical treatment of a bone fracture does not necessarily require hospitalisation. Outpatient operations for bone fractures have increased significantly in recent years. The development of modern plate, screw and nail systems in particular has contributed to this. We use these modern materials in our operations, in some cases using minimally invasive techniques, which enables us to operate in our practice's own operating theatre without damaging soft tissue. Alternatively, we can also perform all surgical procedures in our affiliated hospital in Königstein as part of a short inpatient stay.

We (Mr Hirschberger and Dr Riediger) have acquired the additional qualification "specialised trauma surgery" following our training as a specialist in surgery. In order to obtain this additional qualification, several years of further training at a hospital with a highly specialised trauma surgery department is required. After obtaining this speciality designation, we both worked as senior physicians at "maximum care" hospitals.

We therefore have extensive experience in the conservative (non-surgical) and surgical treatment of bone, tendon and joint injuries of all degrees of severity. The spectrum of these injuries ranges from childhood and adolescent injuries (paediatric traumatology) to adult injuries, e.g. in the context of sporting activities (sports traumatology), to fractures in older people due to accidents/falls or osteoporotic weakening of the bones.
